This 2023 Model Y RWD came with the Premium Audio option that consists of 12 speakers and a dedicated boot subwoofer. Although lots of owners praise this car for above average audio, just after a few days of driving this car around we have found all the shortfalls. It lacks mid-bass, the subwoofer is more of a deep noise addition rather than precise bass. And high-res audio was just still sort of muffled, without all the details that we are used for. We have to admit that the sound staging however is very good. You hear your music right in front of you and because of Tesla's cooperation with B&O it's tuned for the passenger at the same time, too!
Focal Flax has been our pick for lot of installations. Natural sound and amazing technology. Lightweight. Focal makes a full speaker package that directly fits all Teslas. No modifications needed in this car for any of their speakers. This 8' woofer lifts the mid-bass response and also produces pretty deep bass. We have actually decided to turn the factory subwoofer off because this speaker actually sounds much better and deeper than the factory one.
Focal 4' dashboard replacement speakers. There's 3 of these in the dash and we have also added their aluminum tweeter in the center. The stage came alive. Especially for instrumental songs and live performances.
It is important to note that we have used Tidal for the evaluation as sources like Spotify (Standard Quality) or YouTube Music haven't provided the desired sound quality.
Focal aluminum tweeter is the cherry on the top. It makes the treble just stand out. We were interested how this tweeter will compare to their TAM tweeter that comes as standard in their universal kit and it surprised us. Positively. The details are amazing. Considering that we haven't yet used an external amplifier or a DSP to calibrate the sound we are amazed how these play out of the box!
